Why link to other websites?

WebsiteDesignDeals interact with many companies and services and from time to time  one or more companies stand out from the crowd.  We are a great believer in ‘credit where credit is due’ and in the world of web site design its always good to meet new friends and share ideas. Website links to other pages are also an advantage to a website, in particular to a new site, the reason for this is that Google, for example, asks websites to link to others, they acknowledge that should a website link to another then that website must have some value to others, there are various types of links, some good, some really good and some that could not only harm your website standings but could get you banned from search engines. To guide you we will try to keep it simple and split the types of links into a few categories. Directory links, these are an invaluable way of obtaining indexing and influence ranking ‘Inbound links’, this is where one site links to another with no advantage to the original linking site. These links are of great value to your web site design and the search engines will acknowledge that. ‘Reciprocal links’, this is where one site will exchange links with another for mutual gain and mutual respect, again the search engines understand that a mutual exchange (acknowledgement) has been made and value has been obtained, not only from search engines but from your clients, for example; WebsiteDesignDeals is based in Lochgilphead, Argyll, Scotland. There are sites that we have used that have been both advantageous for us to use and that our site visitors may also find of equal value. An example of such a site would be Fyne Pet Services, who have undertaken work for us and to which we acknowledge their value to others, so we link to them and they link to us. Links from blogs, forums and social media sites through signatures, natural links and comments. These have value for both search engine, clients new and old and presence Advertisements and PPC links. Costly but worth it, these links get you noticed where you want, how you want and when you want Internal links, all pages within your website should be linked from at least one static link. All links have value but some have negative value, these sites are many and include sites that spam you and other sites, adult sites should be avoided unless your site is an adult site, link farming is to be avoided at all costs. Many ‘black hat’ SEO companies will encourage you to buy links, hundreds and thousands at a time, this is not natural growth of your site and the search engines are not stupid, they know that this surge of links to your site is highly unlikely to be genuine. In the first instance such sites will promise 1st page listings in Google, good luck with that, there are  Millions of sites, only 10 get listed on the first page of Google. There are no short-cuts to success, there are many factors that will result in your business growth, the key is to recognise this and to take the right steps, quality design is a key player, SEO, the right links and never the wrong. Check your site and remove broken links, check the landing pages are correct too. Reach forward with Blogging, Social Media, Pay Per Click Campaigns (PPC) and good quality SEO, above all keep your content fresh and clean. A wise man once said, ‘There is little point in having the best Television Advert if you haven’t bought any Air Time to show it’. Think of SEO in the same way.
